Healthy Garlic Salad Recipe

My mother's greatest recipe ever passed on to me would have to be her oober amazing and healthy garlic salad. I grew up eating it or some variation  almost everyday!
A continually raved salad at parties and potlucks, "Shari's Salad" has become a staple in my new home as well. The best part is that while it is wonderful tasting, it is also FULL of essential items that your body should be getting daily.
Ingredients:
Lemon Juice
Braggs Liquid Amino Acid
Nutritional Yeast
Fresh Garlic (cloves)
Extra Light Olive Oil
Green Leaf Lettuce
Wash the salad - I buy local organic and the leaves tend to be pretty dirty. Using a salad spinner is essential, otherwise you will either have a very wet salad or be spending a lot of extra time drying it.
Tear the leaves into small pieces.
Mix your ingredients - I usually use a measuring cup so that I keep it accurate.
Recipe for two people:
2 squirts Lemon Juice
1 long squirt Braggs Liquid Amino Acid
Sprinkle Nutritional Yeast
3-4 large Garlic Cloves
1/4 cup Extra Light Olive Oil
Small head or 1/2 large Green Leaf Lettuce
Pour the mixture on the salad - mix.
Then add a sprinkling of nutritional yeast - be careful, too much can really dry out the salad!
Serve and eat!
For special occasions (since it is not as healthy) I like to add feta cheese for flavor and looks - it really adds a lot of pizzaZ!
This salad is great served plain ...
It is also excellent inside of a burrito or on top of a rice stack ...
The recipe can also be used exactly the same with cut up cabbage as well as cut up cucumbers for a change. The mixture is also wonderful on baked potatoes as a substitute for butter or sour cream. It can also be added to pasta as a great sauce add the feta to the pasta and it will rock your socks!
ENJOY!

DIY// Canister Labels

I have had these plain canisters in my pantry for four years. They have been an on-going hand-me-down/garage sale collection since we have been married.
To spruce them up a little, I added chalk board stickers I found mine in the dollar bins at target but you can also find them at Michaels or Hobby Lobby fairly regularly.
Then, all you need is a metallic sharpie and you are all set - totally stylish and fresh looking canisters! Such an easy fix but worth it!

DIY// Pictures on the cheap

I have been oogling so many amazing wall hangings on Pinterest recently. Most particularly this adorable print:
However, being on a tight budget and with multiple remodels going on in the house, these little luxuries have been placed on the back burner for now.
That is until I realized that I COULD indeed place these beauties on my wall ... on the cheap and with a lot less quality!

So here we go, Prints on the cheap

Grab random frames around your house or go to a second hand store and pick them up on the cheap. Spray paint them whatever color you want - I am trying to stick with black and gold for our walls.

Go online pinterest for me and copy/paste your favorite prints onto Microsoft Word or any other word processor program and make them as large as they can be without being too grainy and blurry.
Print.
Don't forget to look around your house for things that could be used as prints as well. I had gotten a gorgeous Rifle paper herb calender last year and kept it knowing I wanted to do something with the pictures since they were so lovely! Trimming them made them a perfect size for a couple of my frames.

Also, there are always great photos around the house to add in fun frames.
Then, decided where the different prints and sizes will fit.
Finally, hang and display around the house!

Keeping it FRESH!

No matter how good something looks in your house,

it. gets. old.

am I right?? Therefore, it is important to keep rearranging things or spray painting things! to keep things fresh and new feeling!

Something to keep in mind are areas in your home that lend themselves to more constant change, almost like a seasonal place where you can change the decor both seasonally AND casually whenever you feel like it.
A couple places in the house lend themselves nicely to this including a fireplace mantle, buffet tops, coffee and end tables. In my house, these all get changed as well but my true chameleon is the bar cart. Since we are a dry house, there isn't a "constant" and is an ever changing placement of whatever I am in the mood for.
Since January I got it for Christmas it has gone through many different stages ...
Winter
Spring Greens
Summer

Still not sure if I love my old bottles ... thinking of spray painting them gold? Too much? Right now they don't really match but I love the depth and hight they give to different areas.

Remember to keep things FRESH throughout the year! Good Luck Rearranging!

DIY// All that glitters is GOLD!

I decided to join the pinterest GOLD FEVER bandwagon!

Let me tell you, IT IS ADDICTING!! Everything looks better with gold spray paint! I really have been having to calm myself down so it doesn't look like a little golden fairy threw up all around our house! However, I am SUPER excited about the things that I have done!

I have been hanging onto these jars since a fellow teacher dropped them in the "trash" much to the chagrin of my husband - you gotta have vision man!

Using the gold spray paint I turned these into real beauties!

 Materials:

  • glass objects (jars, glasses, dishes, etc.)
  • Painters tape
  • Metallic gold spray paint
  • Exacto knife could be useful when tearing the tape off I may use this next time

Tape the jars in whatever design you would like
Cover the exposed glass with paper
Spray in a well ventilated area - I did about three coats
Gently remove the tape and TADA!! Handy and stylish containers to fill to your hearts desire!
Great color for the holidays as well!

In the family room, I spray painted the outlet plates gold...

I also spray painted the bottom of this plain chip and dip set to make it POP a little more:

Again, a fabulous color for holiday use as well.

My salvaged desk. This poor thing had seen better days and while it did have a sleek, somewhat modern look, I just couldn't get it to fit anywhere. Add a little gold spray paint ...

Please disregard the unfinished wall in the background, that project is still under way!
After seeing an adorable post on Sugar & Cloth of whom I just adore! I knew I HAD to make this canvas. So since I was in the mood for gold, I also painted this which will eventually hand above the desk once the wall is completed.
The paint spatters began as an accident, not sure If I should paint over them or leave them ...
So, if you are like me and are in LOVE with GOLD - try out some of these very simple DIY creations.
